At the center of the exhibition is an animation box that Mathiasen has designed himself. The films shown in the exhibition are made in this box.

The animation box is a work of art and a tool. On the occasion that Mathiasen now donates the box to Guttormsgaard’s archive, she has equipped it with instructions for use in the form of five graphic prints. The instructions for use are inspired by the world’s first illustrated reading book for children, Orbis Sensualium Pictus: Dend gandske Verden full of the Things that can be seen and sandsis painted (1658). It is printed at Verkstedbiblioteket, the archive’s own printing workshop. New and old is a collection of poems by Gustaf Fröding from 1897 which includes the poem «En konstteori». Together with Orbis Sensualium Pictus, the poem forms the theoretical basis for the exhibition’s pedagogy.
